Ah. Halfway through summer. The sun is shining and the temperature is rising. Though, apart from the fact that I do truly enjoy the warm weather, during summertime I often find myself in a shoe-related quandary: when it gets hot, my feet get uncomfortably warm and sweaty in a pair of shoes. Of course, the easy answer is a fashionable pair of sandals; however, given certain occasions like weddings, dances, or professional gatherings, sandals aren’t always appropriate to wear. Thankfully though, after years of searching, I finally discovered the perfect summer shoe.
This weekend’s fantastic weather had ladies everywhere tossing their winter duds into storage bins, I’m sure. Make way, you stuffy old sweaters. Get outta the closet, parkas and pea coats. In a larger article about the fashion frustrations of professional women across the country, Forbes writer Laura Lipton suggests wearing slacks when it’s just too hot to wear pantyhose. (After Michelle Obama mentioned on a visit to The View that she “stopped wearing pantyhose a long time ago,” I’m surprised anyone is still stuffing their legs into those sausage casings.) She also mentions common summer faux pas, including scaly skin, poorly maintained toenails, and cracked heels. The spring is in full bloom here in Portland, and I’m still craving more blossoms. I’m not alone. Designers have dubbed this the “Season of the Flowers,” and if you ask me, there are few better places to place petals than at a beautiful woman’s feet–or on her shoes.
