Is barefoot better?

free2Care for a brisk, barefoot jog, anyone? I recently read a fascinating article about barefoot marathon running. Apparently, running shoeless is the new craze. Still, while running barefoot may be the latest athletic breakthrough, “going shoeless” certainly isn’t fashion-forward when it comes to the hottest trends — even during the summer. Do you know what is?

The Perfect Summer Shoe

BV1276Ah. Halfway through summer. The sun is shining and the temperature is rising. Though, apart from the fact that I do truly enjoy the warm weather, during summertime I often find myself in a shoe-related quandary: when it gets hot, my feet get uncomfortably warm and sweaty in a pair of shoes. Of course, the easy answer is a fashionable pair of sandals; however, given certain occasions like weddings, dances, or professional gatherings, sandals aren’t always appropriate to wear. Thankfully though, after years of searching, I finally discovered the perfect summer shoe.

Summer Wedge Sandals: Perfect Summer BBQ Shoes

This weekend’s fantastic weather had ladies everywhere tossing their winter duds into storage bins, I’m sure.  Make way, you stuffy old sweaters.  Get outta the closet, parkas and pea coats.  It’s time for sundresses, sandals, and super hip shades.  Finally!  Now that the summer’s here, take advantage of it by grabbing a pair of the best shoes for summer soirees:  wedge sandals.

Nude-Toned Shoes: Perfect For Summer

In a larger article about the fashion frustrations of professional women across the country, Forbes writer Laura Lipton suggests wearing slacks when it’s just too hot to wear pantyhose.  (After Michelle Obama mentioned on a visit to The View that she “stopped wearing pantyhose a long time ago,” I’m surprised anyone is still stuffing their legs into those sausage casings.) She also mentions common summer faux pas, including scaly skin, poorly maintained toenails, and cracked heels.  Aside from taking care of your feet, Ms. Lipton offers a wonderful tip for summertime footwear fashion:  Nude-Toned Shoes.

The Era of Flowery Feet Begins: Shoes With Flowers

The spring is in full bloom here in Portland, and I’m still craving more blossoms.  I’m not alone.  Designers have dubbed this the “Season of the Flowers,” and if you ask me, there are few better places to place petals than at a beautiful woman’s feet–or on her shoes.    Yesterday, Baltimore Examiner writer Carole Langrall posted a great slideshow of flowery shoes on the runway.  Inspired by this lovely collection, I’ve gathered a few Shoefly pairs that feature flowers.  Enjoy, and may this spring mark your full blossoming into style!

Thank You, Seychelle, for this Flirty Spring Slingback

Easter has come and gone, but I’m longing for the continuation of spring shoes.  This time of year, Mary Janes seem to pop up with the tulips. But just as early spring can’t last forever, Mary Janes are soon too cloying and cutesy for the breezy days of May and June.  Luckily, Shoefly has just the shoe for the days leading to Cinco de Mayo and beyond:  Thank You Note from Seychelle.
