Work on Your Feet? 5 Tips to Keep Hard-Working Feet Happy

Nurses.  Teachers.  Factory Workers.  Their  feet take a beating on a daily basis. These are the people who somehow manage to work double shifts, all on their feet.  I know from experience in the classroom how long hours spent on your feet can make you feel like you’re walking on glass.  In empathy for those tough-as-nails workers, I’m offering the following five tips to keep your feet healthy and happy, especially if you depend on them at work.

On these long summer days, it’s imperative to have versatile footwear.  After all, you never know when a Tweet or Facebook status update will clue you into a super-hip after-hours event.  Rather than carry around your clubbing shoes, why not marry work and play in a single pair of kicks?  I have a few tips for finding the perfect pair of shoes to transverse your roles as laborer and party animal: (more…)

Five Fab Summer Shoes for the Office

3394749911_50a9003b8b_mIt’s gorgeous outside; sunny, with a tantalizing sea breeze from the Southwest.  Your mind waders to the beach, the river, or the mountains.  But you’re tragically trapped at work, and the amazing weather makes you want to bang your head against your cubicle’s padded walls. Or you’re stuck in class, desperately trying to keep your mind on Socrates rather than sunshine. No one can make your unfortunate indoor time pass more quickly this summer, but a pair of perfectly formal summer flats from Shoefly might make it more enjoyable. Nude-Toned Shoes: Perfect For Summer

In a larger article about the fashion frustrations of professional women across the country, Forbes writer Laura Lipton suggests wearing slacks when it’s just too hot to wear pantyhose.  (After Michelle Obama mentioned on a visit to The View that she “stopped wearing pantyhose a long time ago,” I’m surprised anyone is still stuffing their legs into those sausage casings.) She also mentions common summer faux pas, including scaly skin, poorly maintained toenails, and cracked heels.  Aside from taking care of your feet, Ms. Lipton offers a wonderful tip for summertime footwear fashion:  Nude-Toned Shoes.

Agro-Shoes for the Workplace

Yesterday, we introduced a new player on the worldwide footwear fashion stage: the Aggressive Shoe.  Like many runway styles, the Agro-Shoe looks great on celebrities, models, and paper, but requires a little work to translate into everyday fashion.  If you work in a place that accepts punk-rock shoes with menacing studs, more power to you.  If, however, you must fuse fashion with a professional appearance, you’ll need an Aggressive Shoe that’s slightly less  in-your-face.  You need a subtle way to give it to The Man.  It must be so subtle that The Man might even dole out a compliment or two, completely unaware that what he admires is in fact a sign of secret rebellion.

How To Find Comfortable Shoes: Fitting Tips For Heels

Over the last three days, Shoeflyer has featured Gentle Souls shoes. Featuring such a comfort-oriented shoe maker has brought to mind the importance of finding wearable shoes. Sure, I’ll climb onto a pair of fierce heels for a couple of hours at the show, but I’ll probably sink into the tub and treat my feet at the end of the night. Most days, my shoes are certainly chic, but they’re also comfortable. My demand for comfort arose from a couple of years as a shoe saleswoman in Gottschalk’s during high school.

Happy Paraskavedekatriaphobia Day: Shoes for Friday the 13th.

Friday the 13th is a day long associated with strange happenings and bad luck.  This is the worst day of the year for paraskavedekatriaphobics, who suffer from a fear of Friday (in Greek, paraskevi) the 13th (dekatreis). Why fear a superstition that’s only been on written record since the 1900s?  Well, numerology provides one reason.  Twelve is considered a complete number in numerology, since there are twelve months in the year, twelve signs of the zodiac, twelve apostles, twelve hours on clocks, twelve gods of Olympus, and so forth.  Thirteen seems odd and out of place after such a complete number.

Perfect Yoga Shoes

If you’re like me, you’re usually running a little late on your way to yoga class. You throw open the door, flash a sheepish smile at the instructor, and rush to take off your shoes before heading into the studio.
