Why do women own so many pairs of shoes?

This, of course, is one of the age-old questions many men find wandering through their heads. And as a member of the male gender myself, I won’t lie, I’ve let the same question do some wanderin’ in my own noggin — don’t get me wrong, I love my shoes (obviously), but even I try to draw the line somewhere. Today, however, columnist Sheri Goggin came to the defense of women and their abundance of shoes by addressing the question in a local newspaper. Here’s how a man thought her answer measured up.

Five Fab Summer Shoes for the Office

3394749911_50a9003b8b_mIt’s gorgeous outside; sunny, with a tantalizing sea breeze from the Southwest.  Your mind waders to the beach, the river, or the mountains.  But you’re tragically trapped at work, and the amazing weather makes you want to bang your head against your cubicle’s padded walls. Or you’re stuck in class, desperately trying to keep your mind on Socrates rather than sunshine. Here are a few comfy-yet-presentable flats for your summertime work.

Yamamoto Brings Red-Hot Shoes to Paris Fashion Week

The Parisians certainly know how to end things with a bang. This week marks the beginning of Paris Fashion Week, the final leg of the worldwide metropolitan fashion showcases for the season. Sportmax Showcases Nude Tone Shoes at Milan Fashion Week

Fashion commentators are calling Milan’s Fashion Week a flashback to various decades. Giorgio Armani took fashion lovers back to the 1940s, and threw in biker jackets and jewels. Prada channeled the wholesome farm girl look of the same decade with wool skirts and waders.  (Yes, waders.  One blogger described the spring Prada line as what would happen if “a character from Gosford Park ran off with a fisherman.”)  Moschino returned to the full skirts of the 1950s and Gucci revisited the 1980s.  The early section of the Sportmax show was inspired by the same 1940s elegance as Armani, but highlighted nudes and neutrals.  The second half of the show featured boxy shoulder pads and tight tailored lines, as if to show Max Mara’s 1980s credentials.  (Sportmax is Max Mara’s everyday line.)

Thirteen Thursday: 13 Blue and/or Suede Shoes

Historically speaking, March 5th is a great day to wear army boots or blue suede shoes, since on this date in 1960, Elvis Presley was discharged from the army after finishing his two-year stint in Germany.  The King wasn’t exactly roughing it in the army– he lived off-base, surrounded by family and friends.  Still, he completed his duty at a pivotal point in his career, spending two years away from a nation of swooning teenage girls that couldn’t get enough of the 20-something heart-throb from Mississippi.  So on this day when Elvis traded in his army-issue Big Boots for his old Blue Suede Shoes, Shoeflyer is featuring blue suede shoes. And since it’s Thursday, why not make it a baker’s dozen?
