Get Ready, Get Green

BV2009That’s right, green – and no, we’re not talking environmentally-friendly — just the color. Green is on its way back and already surfacing among some shoe designers, at least, that’s what our friends at The Shoe Dish are saying. While they concede, however, that we won’t see the color’s popularity in full force until next spring, hints of the fashion trend will be appearing throughout the fall and winter. And when spring does get here, Shoefly wants you at the forefront of fashion instead of trying desperately to catch up. Here are a few ways for you to set the trend, not just follow it.

“Spring” Ahead — way ahead.

springPerhaps a tad premature, Shoeflyer’s got an inside scoop on next spring’s fashion trends. While some may say it’s too early to be thinking about fashion that far off, I think it’s our duty here at Shoeflyer to keep you informed and current on the latest developments in the world of shoes. Even though next spring is several months (and seasons) away, it’s never too early to begin preparing, especially in order to keep your eyes open for great deals during the off seasons. So, what exactly do we know?

These Shoes Were Made for [Pack]ing

AdaHave you ever stared, frustrated, at an open and overly-stuffed suitcase while holding a pair (or two) of shoes you’ve unsuccessfully fit inside? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself in this very situation, outfits planned and packed, yet requiring more shoes than I can possibly take. Thankfully, after some thought and a little research, I learned a few things about packing shoes effectively.

Fashion Tips For a Stunning Fourth of July

The Fourth of July spawns more eye-crossing, headache-inducing fashion faux pas than any other jubilee, if you ask me.  Sure, certain people don matching symbols for every holiday.  Christmas-time brings reindeer monstrosities, the return to school signals the return of pencils and crayons as decorative motifs, and don’t even get me started on Halloween. But when the carefree summer attitude combines with our especially busy flag design, disaster strikes for many would-be Independence Day divas. Remember:  everyone else knows it’s the Fourth of July. Your shirt does not have to remind them of that fact.  Still, I appreciate wanting to be in the holiday moment– I used to be an elementary school teacher, after all.  And so, I bring you a few tips for making sure your Fourth of July outfit isn’t a dud.

Fashionista Web Recommendations: Weardrobe.com

Do you ever get sick of seeing at those twiggy, unreal models in the glossies? I do. Don’t get me wrong—I love fashion.  I crave the mix of creativity, confidence, and pure poetry that an especially inspired ensemble offers.  However, I tire of seeing magazine models who don’t look like any real woman I’ve ever seen—and they’re not. Real, I mean. They’re not real. Those images are heavily altered. The body’s natural distinctions—an uneven eyebrow, a crooked tooth, a birthmark—are removed, until all that’s left is an empty image of society’s unrealistic expectations for beauty.

Thank You, Seychelle, for this Flirty Spring Slingback

Easter has come and gone, but I’m longing for the continuation of spring shoes.  This time of year, Mary Janes seem to pop up with the tulips. But just as early spring can’t last forever, Mary Janes are soon too cloying and cutesy for the breezy days of May and June.  Luckily, Shoefly has just the shoe for the days leading to Cinco de Mayo and beyond:  Thank You Note from Seychelle.

Easter Sunday Best: Petticoat Teal Flats

seychelles-petticoatI’m slipping into a pair of Seychelles Petticoat flats in teal this upcoming Easter Sunday. The color is perfect for my spring floral a-line skirt and the two button adornment on the vamp is the utmost in femininity. Other descriptions of the shoe called them “nautical.” I’m not so sure I feel sailor-like in these too-cute shoes. I feel more like a second grader running around my grandma’s house in my Easter dress.  But hey, we all have our opinions on style.

Be Stress-Free this Friday March13th

Today marks the second Friday the 13th in this calendar year. Since 2009 started on a Thursday, we can expect three Fridays to fall on the 13th this year. For the first Friday the 13th, back in February, Shoeflyer reviewed the historical significance of the superstition surrounding Friday the 13th. Today, I’m featuring fun factoids about Friday the 13th: (more…)

Thirteen Thursday: 13 Blue and/or Suede Shoes

Historically speaking, March 5th is a great day to wear army boots or blue suede shoes, since on this date in 1960, Elvis Presley was discharged from the army after finishing his two-year stint in Germany.  The King wasn’t exactly roughing it in the army– he lived off-base, surrounded by family and friends.  Still, he completed his duty at a pivotal point in his career, spending two years away from a nation of swooning teenage girls that couldn’t get enough of the 20-something heart-throb from Mississippi.  So on this day when Elvis traded in his army-issue Big Boots for his old Blue Suede Shoes, Shoeflyer is featuring blue suede shoes. And since it’s Thursday, why not make it a baker’s dozen?
