Earlier this month, Peggy Spencer celebrated her 25th year working with shoes at a department store in Iowa. She first started way back in 1984 (a year that I personally remember because, well, that’s the year I was born) and has since become one of three managers in the store. To her friends, she’s just Peggy, but to the majority of customers who happen her way, she’s known as “The Shoe Lady.” In fact, Spencer even admits to often hearing the phrase “There’s the shoe lady” from time to time. When I first read this story, I knew that I wanted to share it with you because one, I still can’t believe this lady has been selling the same shoes almost everyday of my entire life, and two, I think it’s a great accomplishment to faithfully serve in one place for so long. Have you ever stared, frustrated, at an open and overly-stuffed suitcase while holding a pair (or two) of shoes you’ve unsuccessfully fit inside? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself in this very situation, outfits planned and packed, yet requiring more shoes than I can possibly take. Thankfully, after some thought and a little research, I learned a few things about packing shoes effectively.

Yesterday, we introduced a new player on the worldwide footwear fashion stage: the Aggressive Shoe. Like many runway styles, the Agro-Shoe looks great on celebrities, models, and paper, but requires a little work to translate into everyday fashion. If you work in a place that accepts punk-rock shoes with menacing studs, more power to you. If, however, you must fuse fashion with a professional appearance, you’ll need an Aggressive Shoe that’s slightly less in-your-face. You need a subtle way to give it to The Man. It must be so subtle that The Man might even dole out a compliment or two, completely unaware that what he admires is in fact a sign of secret rebellion.
