Faryl Robin is one of my favorite lines. Why? Because every Faryl Robin shoe seems to have its own story waiting to be told. With unusual lines, unpredictable heels, and sweet shapes in everything from flats to boots, Faryl Robin has a winning formula for chic shoes. I love her stuff so much, that I sometimes wish I could have a mini Faryl Robin sitting on my shoulder as I trudge through miles of shoe aisles, on a mission for the perfect pair. Well, now I can! Okay, I can’t actually have a mini Faryl, but I can run through her three essential questions as I shop for shoes:
With September only a day away, it’s time to say “So long!” to sandals and “Welcome back!” to boots. Yet, as I was thinking about making the transition to fall footwear, I started really grieving the ease and convenience of sandals. Needless to say, I’m not looking forward to the added hassle of pulling on a pair of boots or strapping myself into some other winter-approved shoe in order to brave the elements — especially when I’m in a hurry or only headed out for a quick errand. But with a cold and wet fall coming, anything else is just too impractical, and if you’re native to the Pacific Northwest like I am, you know the rain isn’t very friendly to just any shoe. And sleet and snow can be just as ruthless. Thankfully, I just discovered the perfect shoe for fall and winter.
At first, I was going to steer clear of the Back To School phenomenon, since Shoefly doesn’t currently sell any kids shoes. And then I remembered that we are in the middle of one of the biggest back-to-school waves this country has seen. The dismal economy has generations of adults returning to school after years in the workforce. Not to mention all of the traditional college and grade-school students who will return to the classroom this fall. And so, I’m bringing you a Back-To-School Shoe Special that students of all ages can use. Instead of delving into the details for each school-bound demographic, I’ll lay out a few ground rules for all students, accompanied by pictures of great back-to-school shoe deals from Shoeflyer.com.
Time to start writing the Shoeflyer post for today… I’ll just take a look around the web for shoe news… ho-hum, blah-de-blah—WHAT? FLIP-FLOPS ARE DEADLY? That’s right. Take a turn around Google News for yourself, and you’ll find no less than nine articles on the insidious danger of thongs for your feet, one titled “Warning: Flip Flops Can Kill You.” Local news stations across the country are dedicating hard-hitting journalists to this silent pedi-threat. Why are flip-flops so dangerous, you ask? Well…
Nurses. Teachers. Factory Workers. Their feet take a beating on a daily basis. These are the people who somehow manage to work double shifts, all on their feet. I know from experience in the classroom how long hours spent on your feet can make you feel like you’re walking on glass. In empathy for those tough-as-nails workers, I’m offering the following five tips to keep your feet healthy and happy, especially if you depend on them at work.
Every once in a while, a new idea changes the way you think. Today, I’d like to feature one such idea: Rollasoles. As the video here shows, Rollasoles are shoes that can be bought from vending machines, mostly in dance clubs. Matt Horan, the 27-year-old inventor of Rollasoles, came up with the idea after noticing the intense pain his lady friend suffered from dancing in stilettos. Like a true knight-in-entrepreneurial-armor, he designed a pair of flats that can fit into your purse. Okay, by his own admission, he was mostly spurred by his girlfriend’s complaints, but still, I imagine that quite a few damsels-in-footwear-distress have been saved by Mr. Horan’s invention.
Ever wonder who gets to choose which shoes appear on store shelves? Those lucky individuals are called shoe buyers, and a whole flock of ‘em will descend on Las Vegas for the World Shoes Accessories show from July 29th through August 2nd. How I wish I could be there! Here’s my daydream itinerary for a fabulous WSA weekend:
On these long summer days, it’s imperative to have versatile footwear. After all, you never know when a Tweet or Facebook status update will clue you into a super-hip after-hours event. Rather than carry around your clubbing shoes, why not marry work and play in a single pair of kicks? I have a few tips for finding the perfect pair of shoes to transverse your roles as laborer and party animal: (more…)
Although die-hard cyclists usually wear special bike shoes with clips, casual bike-riders will vouch that nearly any shoe may be worn on a bike. Sure, if you’re training for a race, you’ll want clip-ons. But if you’re just biking into the office, why not look cute? Canadians are already advocating a more European approach to biking fashion, as the Montreal Gazette recently highlighted in an article titled, “Cyclistas Spin Into Style.” Apparently, on the other side of the Atlantic, it’s considered normal– or even hip– to wear chic clothes and shoes while biking. In fact, over in Europe, entire blogs are devoted to watching bicycle fashion.
This weekend’s fantastic weather had ladies everywhere tossing their winter duds into storage bins, I’m sure. Make way, you stuffy old sweaters. Get outta the closet, parkas and pea coats. It’s time for sundresses, sandals, and super hip shades. Finally! Now that the summer’s here, take advantage of it by grabbing a pair of the best shoes for summer soirees: wedge sandals.
