Early Fall Shoe Trends: Booties are Back!

Cowgirl Bootie: Gemma by Joy ChenAll this week at Shoeflyer, we’ll be reviewing and predicting shoe trends for this fall.  Why so early?  Partially because we like to be proactive.  Also because, let’s face it, the stores are all going autumnal, too.  (They’ll probably break out the Christmas stuff any day now…) And finally, I’m writing about fall shoes because the dog days of summer have me yearning for a crisp, refreshing fall.  Today’s Fall Fad:  Booties.

Or Shooties.  Or Bootees, depending on who’s behind the keyboard.  All of these terms refer to the half-boots with powerful heels that dominated the runway last autumn and fall. They’re back, and this time they’re not holding back.  Since more and more designers are embracing this style, you’re certain to find a bootie to express your inner self, whatever alter-personality happens to lurk beneath your surface.  Personally, I nourish an inner cowgirl, so I’ll be stepping into a pair of Joy Chen’s Gemmas, as shown at left.

Even though they’ve been a favorite for a few seasons now, booties will look slightly different this season than they did last year.  Many designers, like Donna Karan, are adding platforms and using lush materials, like suede. Others, like Alberta Ferretti, are combining this year’s towering heels with suede and patent leather to create booties I could imagine Betty Boop jaunting around town in.  Peep-toe booties are also appearing on runways.  Whatever style you choose, be sure to keep checking back to Shoefly’s boot collection to see new designer boots at affordable prices.  And if you see something you like, snatch it up– Shoefly’s 30% off sale won’t last forever.
