Is barefoot better?
Care for a brisk, barefoot jog, anyone? I recently read a fascinating article about barefoot marathon running. Apparently, running shoeless is the new craze. Still, while running barefoot may be the latest athletic breakthrough, “going shoeless” certainly isn’t fashion-forward when it comes to the hottest trends — even during the summer. Do you know what is?
For starters, let’s talk sandals. First, gladiator sandals continue to conquer the summer. The general consensus seems to be that as long as there’s a lot going on — ties, laces, straps, beads, jewels — you’re in great shape. Second, we know flip-flops are popular, but exercise caution when wearing them. They may create more damage than comfort. Finally, there’s no shame in spicing up your sandals by adding a little height and flair à la the wedge (see right).
Next, it matters what you wear. I can’t tell you how many women I see wearing gorgeous outfits and ghastly shoes. Or vice versa: someone will have on a stunning pair of Sam Edelman’s while the rest of her looks, well, not-so-stunning. If you’re serious about looking good this summer, make sure you understand the dos and don’ts of summer styles with summer shoes.
And finally, it’s time you were introduced to the perfect summer shoe style: perforated. Check out Shoeflyer’s previous post on this innovative summer style.
