Why shoes are the next must-have accessory
Outta the way, you old bag! Make way for the next star: SHOES! For the last several years, designer bags were the must-have accessory. Well, no more.
As Suzy Menkes writes for the International Herald Tribune, “After its decade in the limelight, the It bag is finally over…the focus is on other accessories: designer jewelry, broad bangles, wide belts and madly creative shoes.”
Shoeflyer, many designers, and the trendiest fashionistas would agree with Ms. Menkes. After all, we’ve all been spotting and enjoying off-the-wall shoe designs for a while now. It’s pretty clear that footwear is stepping into the limelight. And Shoeflyer couldn’t be happier.
In fact, I would argue that shoes are more expressive accessories than bags because you wear them all night. You don’t leave your shoes in the booth, or pay someone to watch them. You only do those things with a bag. Personally, I feel especially connected to my shoes because I see them more than any other piece of clothing. After all, they’re right under my nose.
So, what’s your choice for “madly creative shoe“? Since I’m convinced that the 80s are tipping toward cool again, I’m opting to channel Michael Jackson as Captain EO with my choice: Lerna by Tsubo, shown at top. If a wedge Mary Jane walked into an 80s bar, this is what would walk out. This is a great pair of “It accessory” shoes, because you could easily build a whole look around them– or let them stand out on their own.
