London Fashion Week Revives the Naughty Schoolgirl
Maybe I’m just representing my nerdy roots, but if you ask me, smarts and hard work never go out of style. Ditto for talent. This was London’s Fashion Week, and many are reporting a sense of comraderie and support, especially for designers who “did their homework,” so to speak, and showcased thoughtful, fun, and well-planned ensembles. It sounds like fashion across the pond definitely includes careful analysis and design. No wonder, then, that this year’s British styles include a return to a classic symbol of studious behavior with a splash of mischief: the Naughty Schoolgirl.
In her show in London’s Fashion Week, Vivienne Westwood revealed the latest offerings in her Red Label: clunky, colorful high heels paired with plaid ensembles and knee-high stockings. I’m hoping to see more heel designs like a killer pair from this successful show: plaid heels with a punk-dorable bow.
Poetic License has already fused this year’s color (Memosa Yellow) with Vivienne’s plaid to produce a schoolgirl look with a kick. A cutie named Fusion is the result. Shown at left, Fusion features sleek purple leather on the heel, and accents of sleek tan-yellow and argyle.
