Fashion is not fate. Entrepreneurial individuals spend thankless hours dreaming up and making new fashion ideas a reality. Springwise.com, which provides “your daily fix of entrepreneurial ideas,” recently listed their Top Ten Fashion and Beauty Ideas of 2008. Unlike lists that simply review the trends that are already well represented in your closet, by its nature, Sprinwise’s list incorporates ideas we might see more of in 2009.
Shoes occupied three of the top ten slots. First up: work boots for hardworking ladies with a sense of style.
For too long, women in construction were forced to suit up like the men, in bland tan work boots. Now foxy tradeswomen can show some style on the site, thanks to Moxie Trades, the first company we’ve found producing steel-toe workboots in rose pink (shown at right), robin’s egg blue, and sunset red.
Next: customizable sneakers. We’ve already passed on some tips on how you can decorate your own shoes. UK-based Sneakart offers another way to jazz up your sneaks: stickers! They’re not just for albums anymore. Sneakart produces sneakskin, a thin layer of waterproof, durable film to transform your sneakers an art exhibit for your feet. Choose one of their designs, or create and upload your own to earn royalties every time your design is purchased! I love this in-house video introducing the Sneakart crew and their designs:
One more great Shoe idea of ’08: customizabe Keds. Shoes are not separate from the digital revolution, it seems. Just as you can now create and sell your own homemade music, you can design, upload, and sell designs for Keds through Keds Studio. I’ve been attracted to Asian-inspired designs this year, and this stenciled Koi design perfectly fits my Eastern kick.
Judging from these sites, 2009 is the year of the individual. This year, let your shoes express your inner artist.
