The world of shoelacing has a clear expert: Ian Fieggen, author of Laces. This guy is obsessed. His website, shoe-lacing.com, offers an impressive array of wild and wacky shoelacing techniques. Ian’s prowess is well known across the web, and for good reason– his site is the authoritative resource on creative lacing. Fans have sent him inspirational photos showing their lacing masterpieces. His site is often featured on sneaker sites like Sneaker Freaker. Even print media turns to Ian as master of lacing–Wired magazine‘s How To section has featured several of their favorite designs, including a technique to help runners find a more comfortable tie. To really get a grip on his full body of lacing knowledge, buy Ian’s book Laces, which includes a pair of practice laces embedded in the front cover.
Now that your eyes have glazed over in amazement of the whole new world of lacing techniques, let me recommend a pair of shoes that are just begging for an interesting tie-job: Wellingang Mid by Puma. The jewel tones would be enough to make these shoes fly, but throw in the long lace space and you have a definite winner.
