Twelve Days of Shoe Shopping #4: Calling Birds/Madrids
On the fourth day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me,
Four calling birds…

Madrid by Vince Camuto
Huh? A calling bird? What the h-e-double hockey sticks is that? A bird that has mastered telephonic communication? I don’t get it. And I’m not the only one. Wikipedia’s article on “The Twelve Days of Christmas” states that “calling birds” was originally “colly birds,” meaning blackbirds.
So now the question is: Did anyone list blackbirds on their holiday wishlist? No one I know cooks blackbird pies these days, so let’s update the song:
On the fourth day of Christmas
My true friend gave to me
Killer Madrid Pumps
Vince Camuto’s patent Madrid pumps let your delicate, adorable toes peek through in front, while a tapered heel tells the world that you’re a force to be reckoned with. Madrids would make a great present for a career woman– a great pair of shoes will provide the confidence to make that new proposal– or land the next job.
