Weekend in Review: Shoes and News

Let’s start the week off on the right foot with a round-up of recent shoe news.

Oscar drama-rama—What fun is Monday if we can’t spread a little salacious celebrity gossip? Last night, Diablo Cody was supposed to walk the red carpet in a pair of million dollar, diamond studded T-straps. But alas, Cody won her Academy Award, and the shoes, although nice, were not the blingin’ heels we expected. Read on for the whole story.

Pain in the heel—Renee Zellweger wore sparkling silver Louboutin heels to the Oscars and then ditched them half-way through the show, thus proving expensive shoes don’t always guarantee comfort.

Pooch shoes —Humans and horses aren’t the only ones sporting footwear these days. A German police department is currently outfitting their canines with paw shoes. The blue plastic fiber will protect the dogs from broken glass and likely reduce the number of paw-related injuries.

Vegan shoes—Natalie Portman has designed a line of ethical, vegan-friendly shoes. They’re cute! And they’re popular! We wouldn’t have expected anything less from the equally cute and popular Portman. You might want to hurry if you want a pair. These shoes are going like hotcakes.

Weekend in Review: Shoes and News

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but before we celebrate let’s take a few moments to review some shoe news from the weekend.

Green shoes for a green planet—Sustainability and environmentally-friendly products have started to crop up even in the world of high fashion. Now your shoes can be green too, and we’re not talking about the color.  A small boutique shop in the UK now proposes high-fashion that is comfortable and animal friendly too.

Air Jordons. Twenty-three years later and still selling like hotcakes
—Basketball shoe sales are suffering, and across the board top brands are seeing double digit declines in sales. The one exception is the line of Jordon brand shoes which are currently dominating the market and the basketball court.

Peep-toe pumps and tights—Everywhere we look we see designers embracing the concept of open-toed heels and tights. But can you pull off the look without looking like the bio professor in Birkenstocks and wool socks? We say, yes you can. Here’s a how-to-guide on wearing heels with tights.

Crocs give back
—Crocs announced a new program that will allow consumers to send their worn out Crocs to be sorted, cleaned, recycled and eventually distributed to those around the world in need of quality footwear. Never has wearing Crocs felt so good.

Weekend in Review: Shoes and News

It’s the beginning of a new month  and what better way to start February than with a round-up of shoe news.

Off to work we go—One of our favorite fashionistas (can we say fashionista if we’re referring to a guy?), Clinton Kelly from TLC’s "What Not to Wear," tackled the the conundrum of picking an appropriate commuter shoe.

Puffy shiny boots for Fall—New York Fashion week began and we got a sneak peek of upcoming shoe styles for Fall 2008.  Lacoste’s odd hybrid of a moon boot crossed with a stacked heel are particularly, um, noteworthy. They look difficult to walk in and were far from our favorite new shoe style. Who knows, maybe they’ll become the next Ugg, but somehow we doubt it.

Red shoes on your wedding—Polkadot Bride instructed us how to find and select the perfect shoe for the big day.

What’s this I hear? High heels can lead to better overall health?—Tell us more. According to the BBC article, research suggests that women who wore approximately 2-inch heels had as good or better pelvic muscle tone than their flat-wearing counterparts. We knew that we didn’t wear heels simply because we liked the look…
