How to deodorize tennis shoes

This is a subject that comes up often enough when discussing shoes, so we thought we’d let you in on a few secrets from our pals over at eHow.com.

Things You’ll Need

Steps

Step  One

Dry the pair of smelly tennis shoes in the sun. You cannot attempt to
clean them properly until this step is done. The sun will also act in
the first step of removing the smell from the tennis shoes.

Step  Two
Use a pair of knee high stockings
and fill them up with multi-cat kitty litter, then place in shoes. This
will not only help with absorbing moisture in the tennis shoes but also
help with removing the stench.

Step  Three

Sprinkle baking soda into the tennis shoes. This will absorb the
moisture and help with preventing the smell. This is a cheap and
inexpensive way to keep the smell out of your tennis shoes.

Step  Four

Add rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle; this is an effective way to
prevent smelly tennis shoes. Take the time to spray the shoes with the
rubbing alcohol each time before you wear them.

Step  Five

Spray anti-fungal foot spray into the shoes before your tennis shoes
become smelly. If they have begun to smell then place them in the sun,
allow them to dry and then apply the anti-fungal spray inside your
tennis shoes.

Step  Six

Wash your tennis shoes in the washing machine. This is also helpful at
removing smells. Take the shoes laces off to avoid them tangling up in
the agitator.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find an old salt shaker you are not using and put some baking soda in
it. This will allow for easy application of the baking soda in your
    tennis shoes.
