Holiday fashion faux pas
‘Tis the season to kick your shoes off and lounge around with family and friends. With that said, there are a lot of things that come to mind when thinking about holiday attire, as well as gifting. With help from some friends in the online fashion sphere, we’ve put together a list of holiday fashion faux pas. So here are some tips and tricks to avoid catastrophe.
- If you’re a guy, you’ll need to know how to shop for women’s shoes. Thanks to Desiree at About.com, there is a formula.
-
When in doubt, go for cashmere, it will never fail you this time of year.
-
Any item that can be described as "fun" is rarely flattering.
-
If you wouldn’t wear it, don’t give it to someone else.
-
If you’re buying clothing, don’t forget to get a gift receipt.
-
Patent, metallics and beads are all appropriate for this time of
year—just not all in the same outfit. Sparkle yourself strategically! -
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can skip the pedicure
with dressy sandals. To review: Open-toe shoes with bare legs, fishnets
and tights are okay; nylons are not okay (trust us and please don’t argue). -
Stay away from office party attire that emphasizes your cleavage/beer gut/muffin top/back fat/etc.
-
Santa hats: Acceptable only on small children, pets and Santa.
