How come the most adorable of infant clothing doesn’t come any smaller than 12m? (That would be 12 months for those of you new to the world of baby fashion—oh yes, I am SO baby-savvy!). Don’t the baby fashion connoisseurs understand that it is within the first days of the little beings life when all the aunts, uncles, grandparents, best friends, third-aunts and distant cousins go goo-goo for ga-ga and spend more than we should on clothes for the little ones when they are just going to grow out of them before they can even utter the word “momma?” This is the time when we want to play ‘dress-up’ and bathe the child with the most itsy of bitsy clothing decorated with the cutest little buttons and ribbons to match. They are missing out on a huge part of the industry! Yeah, sure there are tons of drab-white “onsies” with their matching single-color elastic-wasted pants. And I understand that these things are “functional,” but why can’t we have fun with function? Let everyone else get my little niece all the functional clothing, I want to get her fabulous clothing. But why do I have to wait to 12m to get her such little divinities? My first challenges in growing as an auntie have been revealed! How many more will there be? I heard there were poopy diapers and everything involved… do aunties need to handle those? I thought that was under the grandparent’s job description?
