Weekend in Review-Shoes and News

For the love of rain, we really pushed our luck here in Portland, Ore. After a week of bragging about our blessed Indian Summer, it has done nothing but rain for the past few days. Honestly, it began raining late Saturday night and has not stopped since. Luckily for you, the wet weather didn’t rain on our shoe and fashion news parade, because there no shortage of exciting headlines to report. With that, here is what’s news:

  • Designer baby shoes—What infant wears $133 crib shoes? Suri Cruise, the offspring of Tom and Katie, of course. As if Burberry and Dior weren’t enough, the Cruise’s go with Roberto Cavalli crib shoes, courtesy of TV’s Kelly Ripa.
  • Head over heels for eco-friendly shoes—Pleather’s the new leather, at least that’s the case for people looking for a cute alternative to leather shoes. Surprisingly, there are a number of shoe brands adopting environmentally conscious designs—and they’re cute too. As of late, Timberland stepped up their environmental offering with their Earth Keepers collection.
  • Are supportive shoes harder on your knees?—Dr. Najia Shakoor at Rush University  Medical College in Chicago seems to think so, as his recent study finds that the  closer to barefoot, the better for the knees.
  • Victoria’s Secret fashion show—Last Thursday marked the Victoria’s Secret lingerie fashion show at Hollywood’s Kodak Theater. Some of Hollywood’s most popular stars gathered to watch models show off Victoria’s newest products. However, lingerie wasn’t the only hot item on the event’s agenda, as the Spice Girls headlined the event with one of their first public performances in years.
