Carrying on from my previous Bridgetown fashion finds, I came about The Art Institute of Portland’s "First Thursday" celebration a few months back when they were showcasing sustainable fashion, (see, even a fashionista can be green!). It was a great event that featured eight Portland-area designers and their various approaches to sustainable style. While perusing the curious cocktails of cloth and sustainability, I happened upon one classy design after another. I was so proud to be part of the Portland fashion scene surrounded by all the creative beings residing in one city—my city.
One designer who really caught my eye was Emily Katz. Emily recently put the production of her expressive embroidery line, Bonnie Heart Clyde, on the back burner to pursue a more sophisticated style in her self-titled attire. Let me tell you, adorable, sustainable and sophisticated have never had such a beautiful ménage e trios.
Emily has created elegant coats and provocative dresses with the ‘wow factor’ of her apparel focused on the lines her clothing creates. She has minimal, though enduring, details as seen in the pockets of the Wow Rain Jacket, the salacious opening in her Sweetheart Wrap Dress that I even drool over, and the perfectly placed bow on her Portland Swing Coat (which, considering its namesake, is rightfully water-resistant). Emily has already made her name known and will most definitely be one to watch as she expands her clothing horizons above and beyond Portland. Now, I am never one to give a “you should” comment, but here it goes; you should catch her clothes in your local boutiques while you can because that girl is going places.
