It was, once again, a long and gloomy weekend here in the Pacific Northwest. That said, we’re going to be optimistic and say summer will officially start this week and it will be hot and sunny from here on out. Fortunately, the myriad of clouds covering the sky had little impact on shoe news. Here’s what went down over the weekend:
- Shoes save lives—At least that was the case for Tyler Fingerle, an Indiana teen whose large rubber soled skateboarding shoes are said to have saved his life during an electric shock, which claimed the lives of two others.
- Whose shoes?—Sky Showbiz asks its readers to guess the celebrity wearing Birkenstocks with socks. Known by many as the biggest footwear faux pas, Birkenstocks with socks is like fashion suicide; that is unless, of course, you’re a tourist from Deutschland or rabid Grateful Dead follower.
- Pimp your pump—In a day and age where customization in key, fashionistas near and far are looking for items they’re not going to see others wearing. The same goes for shoes, and pop-designer Steve Madden is pioneering "do it yourself designer shoes" by letting consumers spend $90-130 to have truly unique shoes.
- Summer shoe shopping, the smart way—Who says they don’t know fashion in South Dakota? Contrary to popular belief, South Dakotans aren’t just about fur-lined hoods, Carhartts and Rubber Duck Boots. Sioux Falls, S.D. journalist Dorene Weinstein gives some great tips for summer shoe shopping on a budget.
