Mismatched shoe trend in Europe

Our fashion trendsetting friends across the pond have done it again. I’m talking about the newest European fashion trend, asymmetrical shoe wear, the art of mismatching shoes. Much to my surprise this is nothing new. Fashion designers have apparently been experimenting with this for decades, but now the asymmetrical shoe trend is gaining ground – mostly in Italy and Spain.

Don’t be fooled. It’s not like people are running around wearing a pump on one foot and a flat on the other, that would be both a fashion and comfort faux pas. From our understanding the non-matching shoe style is more about color and design; like wearing a white Converse Chuck Taylor with a green one. Paloma Marugan, director of the consumer product department of Spain’s trade commission says asymmetrical shoes are most popular in the youth market, but are priced for adults. This time I’m not surprised!
